Establishing the great network of science and technology for professors and researchers

The president of Regional Information Center for Science and Technology mentioning to the history of establishing this regional information Center stated that this centre was established with the aim of making more scientific and information relationships among universities, research centres and domestic as well as regional scientists of science and technology fields. This Center aims to establish a great network of science and technology so that professors and researchers could use all available facilities for developing regional countries in all aspects.

Dr. Mehrad added: disseminating scientific and technical information among countries located in the Region and Iran’s scientists, achieving scientific development goals between these countries have been appointed as the strategic policies of the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology.

Developing the knowledge fronts and providing the most important and newest printed as well as scientific databases were mentioned by Dr. Mehrad as the significant objectives of this Center. Other goals of this Information Center were declared as using these valuable sources, attracting most of the scientists of Islamic countries, establishing information center branches in Iran universities and in countries of the Region and also informing them of the unique scientific facilities available at this Center.

He said this Center satisfies the scientific and information needs of Iran and the countries located in the west of Caspian Sea, Central Asia, Middle East, Indian sub continent and north of Africa.

RICeST was established in 1991 in Shiraz based on the law passed by the Parliament. This Center is considered as the most important reference for achieving scientific and technical information in Persian and non-Persian languages and is a unique Center for the assessment of Islamic countries’ scientific products, he said.

Regional Information Center for Science and Technology consists of different Departments such as System Design and Operations, Computational Linguistics, Information Management, Islamic World Science Citation System, Collection Development and Evaluation, Office of Information Technology, Office of International and Scientific Cooperation, and Office of Information Services.
