A Memorandum of Understanding is signed between ISC and Scopus

A Memorandum of Understanding between ISC and Scopus was signed on 11 May, 2009 by Dr. Mehrad, the president of the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) and Niles Weertman, the Director of Scopus.

President of the Islamic World Science Citation Center said that by using Scopus citation center, the whole world will have access to the scientific products of Islamic world which indexed in ISC.

Jafar Mehrad in the ceremony held in the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, I.R. of Iran, for signing the Memorandum of Understanding between ISC and Scopus -one of the two world citation centers- declared that by signing this MOU, the Scopus search engine provides an opportunity for the Persian articles indexed in ISC to be accessible at Scopus and those indexed in Scopus to be accessible at ISC.

He affirmed that 10 thousand Persian language scientific productions have been indexed in ISC up to now. Over two thousand scientific journals from universities and research centers of the Islamic countries are also indexed in this center and 13 other English language scientific journals have been approved to be indexed.

Mehrad announcing that the number of Iran’s scientific productions has been 6222 since the beginning of 2009, said that we anticipate that this number increases to more than18000 records till the end of the year 2009.

He also said that the number of Iran’s scientific productions at Scopus in 2008 was greater than that at ISI citation center.

President of ISC mentioning the past activities of Scopus declared that this citation center is affiliated to the big company of Elsevier with more than 400 years of experience and publishing the works of great scientists such as Descartes and Galileo. Covering 17 000 journals all over the world, Scopus was established in 2004 as one of the Elsevier’s centers. It deserves noting that 70 percent of the content of Scopus is non-American which indicates the considerable attention this center pays to the countries other than the United States of America.
