The Calculation of H-INDEX in ISC Database
Declaring the input of 80 thousand research documents into ISC database, Dr. Jafar Mehrad, the President of ISC, revealed the ability of ISC in computing “H-Index” as a modern scientimetrics indicator in assessing the science production as well as the scientific impact of individuals based on ISC data.
H-Index is calculated based on the distribution of citations made to a researcher’s published documents. This indicator could also be used for assessing a small faculty group of a center or university.
H-Index has been designed to promote the output of other scientometrics indicators such as “the number of papers” and “the total number of citations” so that effective researchers could be separated from those who have merely published huge number of ineffective papers. This indicator could also be used for comparing the researchers of the same field work.
H-Index has already been investigated exclusively by Scopus, ISI and Google Scholar on only English papers. ISC covering the scientific journals of Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, is now able to operate H-Index on the 80 thousand Farsi research documents indexed at ISC database.
H-Index could be accessed and actively computed via the Citation Report section of ISC. To this end, after you will search the name of the author through the Islamic World Science Citation Index, you will click the Citation Report icon. Then, the amount of h-index of the author will be appeared on the homepage of citation analysis.
