Letter of understanding signed between RLST and Yemen

To implement Article 4 of the Letter of Understanding signed between RLST and Yemen’s National Information Center (NIC), a short training course on RLST’s databases was held in the NIC from 18-20 Sep, 2005. In this program nine librarians and computer specialists were trained by RLST’s visiting experts.

RLST’s Branch in Lorestan University

11th branch of the Regional Library of Science and Technology was inaugurated under the agreement between professor Jafar Mehrad - RLST’s Director - and Dr, Nazari, Lorestan University’s assistant for research affairs in June 16th 2004 (26th of Khordad) Prof. Jafar Mehrad has assigned this branch with the responsibility of providing information for researchers and students in that University.

Dr. Mehrad was appointed by Dr Kabganian, the Vice Chancellor in Research Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology as the Contact Person between the Islamic Republic of Iran and OIC countries. Dr. Mehrad is a member of the Core Group which has the responsibility of ranking universities in Islamic countries.


Seminar of Ranking Scientific Publications of Islamic countries will be held in Shiraz in 2008 with the cooperation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Regional Information Center for Science and Technology and ISESCO.


ISC Council was held by Vice Chancellor in Research Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. Dr. Mehrad, President of Regional Library of Science and Technology, Dr. Mosavi, Vice Chancellor in Research Affairs of Tehran University, Dr. Khosravi, Vice Chancellor in Research Affairs of National Library of Islamic Republic of Iran and some of the members of scientific journals committee were present at ISC Council. President of the ISC council is professor Kabganian.


Alexandria Library, Egypt, invited Dr. Mehrad, president of RLST to visit there. However, because of incoordination and being unsuccessful in receiving visa, this trip did not take place.


Respectable Minister of Science Research and Technology visits Regional Library of Science and Technology (RLST)

Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Zahedi, Iran’s respectable Minister of Science, Research and Technology visited RLST on Thursday, April. 19, 2007. In his visit, Dr. Mehrad, President of RLST, briefed on scientific databases and information services of the RLST including the ISC, E-Atlases & Maps, E-articles, E-books and E-journals. After observing and evaluating services and activities of RLST, Dr Zahedi proposed a number of suggestions, the most significant one being the continuation of establishment of new branches of RLST’s Information Center, in case there are requests from Iranian universities. He also invited the directing body to work harder to find ways and means that could facilitate provision of services to users while confirming the fruitful endeavors already made at RLST. Before appearing at RLST, the respectable Minister visited RLST’s new building under construction in Shiraz behind the IRIB (Fars center). A report on the progress already made as well as the problems faced in the process was issued by the Construction Supervisor before his Excellency.

RLST's database of Iran and Islamic World Scientific Citation Centre (ISC)

The implementation of RLST's database of Iran and Islamic World Scientific Citation Centre (ISC) for Islamic countries was proposed by his Excellency Eng. Farshidi, the honourable Minister of the Ministry of Education in the 9th meeting of the General Assembly of the Educational, Scientific, Islamic and Cultural Organization of ISESCO in which representatives from different Islamic countries had seats. The proposal ratified with a majority vote, was set in the working program of ISESCO for the years 2007-2009.


RLST signed a contract with LHL

 In December 2006, RLST signed a contract with LHL on the basis of which RLST will get access to:

-         more than 47,000 journal and serial titles

-         Strong conference and symposium proceedings collection

-         In excess of 1.5 million government contracted technical reports

-         Over 150,000 standards and specifications

-         U.S. patent and trademark depository library collection

-         More than 300,000 monographs

-         String history of science collection dating from the 15th century

 LHL Scientific and Professional societies include:

 AAAS – AAS – AGA – AIAA – AICHE – AIME – ASCE – ASME – CHF – ECS – IEEE – ISA – IChemE – ISS – ICMA – MPF –NRIFD – SME – SPE – TMS – CBS – WEF – WRC – WEPAN

RLST is to open a new regional branch at Khartoum University, Sudan soon

As a result of the correspondence made by Rest's Office of International, Scientific Cooperation, and the request received from Khartoum University, RLST will inaugurate the branch of its Information Center at Khartoum University in the first half of the year 2007. RLST has already branches in Republic of Yemen, Syrian Arab Republic, etc.

RLST’s President  in a Seminar on Virtual Universities

Prof. Jafar Mehrad, RLST’s President took part in a Seminar on Virtual Universities held in Shiraz University. Prof. Mehrad, while speaking about virtual libraries, introduced RLST as a well-established virtual library working at national & regional scales in the areas of purchase of information as well as information production and provision.


National Network of Iranian University & Research Centers Libraries  was Established at RLST

This Database is a  product from RLST. It covers more than 49600 records in Thesis & 45000 records in Research Projects,

RLST delivers its ID & Password to reserachers in Home & Regional Countries
To meet its long-term objective of disseminating scientific information among home and regional countries, RLST has begun to give publicity to its scientific databases to be accessed through its homepage.Experience has shown that varying groups can benefit from RLST’s invaluable databases, i.e. researchers, scientists and students. At the moment, more than fifty libraries, universities or research institutes from regional countries, countries from the Middle East to Northern Africa, are using RLST’s databases through an ID PASSWORD delivered to them on their requests.To receive more information about the way interested bodies can receive an ID PASSWORD.


Heads of tens of research Institutes & universities to visit RLST

Each year,  hundreds of research institutes, universities and libraries visit RLST with the aim of getting acquainted with its services and facilities.RLST’s Office of International Scientific Cooperation has recently invited different universities and research institutes to pay a visit to RLST. This is done in pursue of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two sides and also as a means of introducing information potentials of RLST.In order to visit RLST, it is necessary to write to RLST’s Office of International Scientific Cooperation or simply send an email at: oisc@srlst.com

The Organization of Islamic Conference

Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH)

 

Comstech was established by the Islamic Summit in 1981 and it is composed of all the member states of OIC.Comstech aims at assessment of human and material resources, building of indigenous capabilities in the fields of science and technology, promotion and continuing cooperation and coordination in scientific and technological areas of its member states and creation of effective institutional structure for planning research, development and monitoring of scientific and technological activities at Ummah level.

COMSTECH’s Inter-Library Resource Network Service is a network among the member states based on which all members are obliged to provide the users of other members with free of charge information services. At the moment, RLST is a full member of this network (start of the membership, Jan. 6, 2003) and it has already provided a number of members with ID PASSWORDS for using RLST’s databases. In addition to meeting the members’ information needs, RLST is trying to make use of the scientific information available in this network to meet the information needs of the Iranian and regional users.


RLST’s Branch in Tishreen University, Syria

Between Sep. 12, 2003 and Sep. 19, 2003 a delegation from Shiraz Regional Library of Science and Technology went to Tishreen University in Syria to inaugurate its branch of Information Center there. The members of the delegation were as follows:

(1) Porf. Jafar Mehrad, RLST’s Director

(2) Muhammed Reza Falahati, Director of RLST’s Office of International Scientific Cooperation.

(3) Ali Gazni, Director of Designing and System Operations Research Group.

(4) Hamid Alizadeh, Head of RLST’s Information Center. This branch will function as a focal point in that region and will provide Syrian researchers and students as well as researchers of other neigh bouring countries, with their information needs.

      

Prof. Jafar Mehrad, RLST’s Director, has assigned RLST’s Office of international Scientific Cooperation with the responsibility of preparing the grounds for inaugurating three other branches in the regional countries within the next two years.

 


RLST's President in Tunis

Prof. Jafar Mehrad, RLST’s President on behalf and as a representative of the Regional Library of Science and Technology participated in the recent World Summit on Information Society held in Tunis in November 2005. In this summit representatives, Ministers, Prime Ministers, etc., of different countries of the world discussed issues related to ICT and Information Society.
