A TREASURE HOUSE OF ARAB & ISLAMIC HERITAGE
The collection of Arabic & Islamic manuscripts is one of the largest and finest of its kind in Iran. The many individual treasures which it contains and the breadth of its subject scope make this collection one of the most important storehouses of Arab and Islamic documentary heritage to be found anywhere in the world. Now the outstanding collection is being made directly accessible to libraries, academic institutions and researchers world-wide through the archival medium of microfiche and web. this collection contains some 14,000 works ranging in date from the early 2nd to the 13th century AH (8th to the 20th century AD). The collection is world famous for two reasons. First, it contains many important individual items from some of the finest calligraphic and illuminated manuscripts of the Holy Qur'an, to autograph and other high quality copies of major religious, legal, historical, literary and scientific works. Secondly, the diversity of its subject matter is equally impressive.
• The Holy Qur'an • Qur'anic sciences and commentaries • Hadith, Kalam (Theology), Islamic law, mysticism and philosophy • Arabic philosophy, grammar and dictionaries • Poetry and other literary genres • History, topography and biography • Music and other arts • Sciences and medicine • Texts relating to the Druze and Bahas, and Arabic Christan literature • Magic, archery, falconry and the interpretation of dreams.
The collection is rich in illumination, notably the many fine calligraphic copies of the Holy Qur'an displaying almost every variety of script - Ma'il, Western and Eastern Kufic, Maghnbi, early askh and Rayhani, Ghuber, Muhaqqaq and Thuluth, Nastaliq, Bihari and Sini.
